Plant Says Hi

What we aim for

We aim for the site to meet WCAG 2.2 at level AA: readable text, controls you can reach and see, and pages that hold together when you zoom or use assistive technology. Accessibility is part of how the site is built, not a certificate — this statement is a working record, not the result of a formal audit.

What the site does today

Pages are built from semantic landmarks and headings, with a “Skip to content” link first in the tab order. Every control — including the photo upload, the context field, and the mobile menu — works by keyboard, keeps a visible focus outline, and carries a label or accessible name. Loading, result, and error states are announced through status and alert regions; following an in-app link moves focus to the main content; and the mobile menu closes and returns focus on Escape. Meaningful photographs carry alt text, decorative images carry none, and the SVG teaching diagrams carry embedded titles and descriptions plus a written caption. The site respects reduced-motion settings, reflows to a 320px-wide viewport, and supports browser zoom up to 200%.

Known limits

The tools need a photo, so using them requires a camera or an existing image file. Readings come back as written text — a reading does not produce its own description of the photo you sent, and the picture of your plant shown beside a result is labelled generically as “The plant photo you submitted”. Guide artwork is illustrative and is described by its alt text and caption; the substance of each guide is carried in its written sections, not only in its figures. These are the limits we know about today rather than a complete list.
